Fitness JournalA powerful quote that deserves to be repeated a million times more, “Failure to plan is planning to fail” -Benjamin Franklin.

In all that we do in life, we plan: college, career, home, finances, vacations, doctors appointments, beauty appointments, cooking dinner, grocery shopping, date nights…shall I continue? We’re naturally programmed to live in a forward-thinking state of mind. Let’s face it, if we don’t know where we’re going, how will we know when we have arrived?

So where does planning to live a healthy lifestyle fit in? A recent article stated that 95% of people who lose weight regain it – and sometimes more – within a few months or years. Yikes! Life is full of surprises and can be pretty hectic causing us to forget what happens from day to day, week to week or month to month. Eventually we’ve become so distracted and distant from our fitness goals that we too have joined the “95% club”. Not good.

What works for me? Keeping a fitness journal. It brings consistency and accountability to my day. I am constantly aware, reminded, challenged, motivated and committed to living a healthier “me” for both today and tomorrow. Some people track Nutrition, Portions, Weight, Feeling, Calories or Activity. Personally, I love tracking things like:

-New Exercises
-Workout Combinations
-Movements, Reps, Time
-Proper Technique & Form
-Personal Body Measurements
-Inspirational Quotes

Okay, now that you’ve got your journal set…CONGRATULATIONS on your new promotion! You’re now officially the Project Manager, the Private Detective and the CEO of your health. You get to plan your fitness goals, evaluate patters and track progress – how exciting! Remember, your success is based on you and you alone. By keeping a fitness journal, you will be able to understand why you are reaching – or not reaching – your fitness goals. You can’t wish your way to fit, you’ve got to work for it.

Journal on my loves.
