Seconds ProThis is one of my favorite apps to use for any HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), Tabata, Circuit Training, and more. It’s called the Seconds Pro App and can be easily downloaded from the Apps Store right to your iPhone, iPad and more. Aside from a Gymboss, this provides a whole new experience to your workout. Just plug in your exercises, timings, intervals, music and viola. For me personally, using timers like these keep me 100% committed to performing at the highest intensity. Additionally, unlike counting reps, timing my intervals makes me competitive and accountable to perform even harder. It forces me to keep pushing until “3.2.1…[rest]”.

Step 1:

Once you have downloaded Seconds Pro, you’ll be anxious to see how it works. While there are multiple ways to customize your workouts, let’s walk through the following example. First, let’s head to “Sample Timers” and then select “Circuit Timer”. From here you can begin customizing your workout by changing the Name, Number Of Sets, Exercises, etc.

Step 2:

Now, let’s add just one exercise. Tap “Exercise 1″ to type in your desired text. In this example, I’ve changed mine to “Deadlifts”.  You’ll also want to set your timing. This will be the duration of each exercise you place within the workout. I have set mine to 0:50 seconds.

Step 3:

To adjust the colors per exercise, tap directly on the 0:50 seconds to edit. A second screen will pop up asking you for “Required Details”. Locate “Background Color”, tap on it and the below screen will appear.  To go back to your workout, hit “Edit Interval” –> “Timer” located on the top left corner of your screen.

Step 4:

Once you have successfully entered all of your exercises, you’ll see this below your workout. Here you may adjust “Rest Between Intervals” and “Rest Between Sets”. Note: If you do not add times to either of these, your exercises and total workout will repeat immediately giving you zero time to rest. You can also select a desired Playlist directly from your device along with various sound schemes that will simultaneously sound off during your music.

Step 5:

My preference is the “Text To Speech With Count” option shown below. I just find that the “3.2.1. [deadlifts]” helps me to seamlessly transition from one exercise to the next. Especially if there are weights, medicine balls or other equipment involved.

Step 6:

Hit “Save” located at the top right of your screen and  start your workout! Enjoy.
